Can silicone spray be used on electrical equipment?

Use in electrical equipment

1. Moisture and corrosion protection

  • Forms a moisture-repellent (hydrophobic) film on electrical panels and connection points
  • Slows down oxidation and rust formation

2. Insulation support (limited)

  • Does not replace high-voltage insulation
  • However, it provides an additional protective barrier on the surface

3. Protection of plastic and rubber parts

  • Keeps cable insulation flexible
  • Reduces cracking of rubber seals

4. Connectors and terminals

  • Provides light protection, especially useful in low-humidity environments
  • However, it should not completely coat contact surfaces

Points to consider

  • Do not apply to live (energized) equipment
  • Excessive use can adversely affect electrical contact
  • Can form a film on contact points that may impair conductivity
  • An appropriate type should be selected for some sensitive printed circuit boards (PCBs)

Correct approach to use

  • Generally applied to external surfaces for protective purposes
  • Used for environmental protection, not on contact surfaces requiring electrical conductivity
