1. Basic Principle
A dosing pump injects a liquid into a system in a predetermined volume and at regular intervals. The goal is to control the quantity and timing, not simply to increase or decrease flow, but to provide measured dosing.
2. Operating Mechanism
Dosing pumps are generally divided into two main types: diaphragm and peristaltic.
A) Diaphragm Dosing Pump
- Diaphragm movement: There is a flexible diaphragm inside the pump. This diaphragm moves back and forth with a motor or magnetic drive.
- Suction stage: When the diaphragm is pulled back, low pressure is created in the pump chamber, and liquid fills the chamber through the suction valve.
- Discharge stage: When the diaphragm is pushed forward, the liquid in the chamber is sent to the system through the discharge valve.
- Valve system: Suction and discharge valves prevent the liquid from flowing back.
These types of pumps are particularly suitable for working with chemicals because they are leak-proof and can withstand high pressure.
B) Peristaltic Dosing Pump
- Hose compression: The pump compresses a flexible hose via a rotating rotor and rollers.
- Liquid movement: When the hose is compressed, the liquid is pushed forward; new liquid is drawn into the relaxed part.
- Advantage: The liquid does not come into direct contact with the pump, making it suitable for hygienic and corrosive chemicals.
3. Control and Adjustment
- Flow rate adjustment: The desired amount is set with an adjustment knob or electronic control on the pump.
- Timing: The pump can operate continuously or be programmed to activate at specific time intervals.
- Actual use: Common in water treatment, chemical industry, pool systems, food, and pharmaceutical sectors.
