1. Base oil incompatibility
- When mineral, synthetic, or PFPE-based greases are mixed, a chemical reaction can occur.
- Result: The grease hardens, its fluidity deteriorates, and no lubricating film forms on the bearing surface.
2. Thickener incompatibility
- If lithium, lithium complex, calcium, or aluminum-based thickeners are mixed:
- The grease separates or clumps
- Proper lubrication cannot be achieved within the bearing
3. Additive incompatibility
- If EP, anti-wear, antioxidant, and other additives are incompatible:
- The grease chemically degrades
- The bearing surface cannot be adequately protected; rust and wear increase
4. Practical consequences
- The bearing overheats
- Friction and energy loss increase
- Premature wear, pitting, and cracks occur
- Bearing life is shortened
