Bearing Maintenance Checklist
1. Visual Inspection
- Is there any oil, grease, or leakage around the bearing?
- Does the bearing housing or pillow block show cracks or deformation?
- Are the seals around the bearing intact?
2. Temperature Control
- Is the operating temperature within the normal range? (Recommended value varies by bearing type)
- Is a sudden temperature increase observed?
3. Vibration and Sound Control
- Does the bearing make abnormal noises (squeaking, knocking, humming) when operating?
- Are vibration measurements within normal values? (With a vibrometer if possible)
4. Lubrication / Grease Control
- Is the correct type and amount of oil or grease used?
- Is the lubrication interval appropriate?
- Are dirt or foreign substances mixed with the oil or grease?
- Is it time for an oil change/grease replenishment?
5. Bearing Placement and Mounting Control
- Is the bearing mounted correctly axially and radially?
- Has no damage or scratching occurred during assembly?
- Are fasteners (nuts, bolts, locks) tight?
6. Operation Control
- Are the load and speed within normal limits?
- Are there any sudden changes in operating conditions?
7. Cleanliness
- Is the bearing and its surroundings clean?
- Has dust, dirt, or metal particles reached the bearing?
8. Documentation and Tracking
- Are maintenance dates and performed actions recorded?
- Are bearing life and failure trends tracked?
- Is the next maintenance planned?
